Planned for ease of maintenance and year round interest, planting is chosen to suit the damp conditions and rural situation.

Foliage plays a major role. Ferns and grasses flourish and shrubs are chosen to provide year-round colour as well as food and nesting sites for birds.

Apart from the initial planting of about 1000 trees, the majority of plants have been raised from seed or cuttings and are often unknown varieties.

The garden continues to evolve. Recent projects have included a woodland walk, a tulip meadow (spectacular in April/May) and the planting of specimen trees in the two acre field
